Surrounded by magnificent, century-old oaks, Gainesville Country Club's gently rolling championship layout stretches 6,938 yards with four sets of tees to accommodate any golfer. Paynes Prairie serves as a beautiful backdrop to the large, well-protected undulating greens. The distinctive #1 Hole is a true test of skill demanding a long and accurate tee shot, coupled with a long iron second shot; downhill, over water to an elevated, well-bunkered green. Other highlights include Hole #3, a long par 5 with a hazard down one side and out-of-bounds on the other. The slight dogleg left requires a well-placed drive and second shot that must avoid a massive live oak guarding the right side of the fairway.
Golf and nature make a statement on Hole #18, a 447 yard par 4. Standing on an elevated tee looking down the fairway, the stunning vista shows the Clubhouse at Gainesville Country Club cradled by the wilderness of Paynes Prairie. The golfer must carry a drive 220 yards over water to a narrow fairway. The second shot is played with a long iron or wood to a narrow, well-bunkered green with severe undulations - one of the best finishing holes in Florida.
